After watching the movie Dolphin Tale, Lee and Krystal Chaklos had to do something.

Although they live in Virginia, Winter’s story of perseverance after losing her tale in a crab trap and being rehabilitated at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium made an impact on them.

So, inspired to make a difference, the Chaklos, donated a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado that will be used by the aquarium to patrol the nearly 26 miles of beach during sea turtle nesting season, which is now through October.

Aquarium staff and volunteers have watched nearly 80,000 hatchlings make their way to the Gulf of Mexico in the last decade, according to officials.

There were 21 loggerhead turtle nests along Clearwater beaches in 2011, according to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. Each nest can contain up to 110 eggs.
