The
state Department of Administration will be submitting information to
the Internal Revenue Service to determine whether the “cash balance”
retirement plan the state Legislature put in place for some new public
employees meets the requirements necessary to be tax exempt and keep
state workers out of the Social Security system, according to a news
release. Gov. Bobby Jindal’s
office announced it would seeking a determination Friday, hours after
the board of trustees of the Louisiana State Employees’ Retirement
System voted to ask the state for clarification on the Social Security
