A Columbia man has been identified as the driver of the vehicle involved in a tractor trailer collision on Interstate 20.
Michael Simpson, 29, of Columbia, was the driver of the 2006 Nissan that was involved in a crash on the eastbound lane of I-20 near I-77 on July 1, Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said in a release.
Watts said the vehicle struck the rear end of the tractor trailer at a high rate of speed.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a Volkswagon that was driving behind the Nissan hit Simpson who was ejected from the vehicle.
The driver of the Volkswagon stopped for a short time but then left the scene.
Simpson died at the scene, Watts said.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate.
